Two evenings of nature, music, and conviviality along the San Nazario stream
The Aperitivo Cilentano inda a Fiumara is one of the most original summer offerings in the Cilento hinterland: it is not a typical village food festival, but a celebration that chooses the bed of a 'fiumara'—a seasonal torrent typical of Southern Italy—as its stage. The event takes place in the Badia area, in the San Nazario hamlet of the municipality of San Mauro la Bruca, in the province of Salerno, Campania, within the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park.
The title in local dialect—«inda a fiumara», meaning «down in the stream»—says it all: you head down toward the water, set up tables among the stones and riparian vegetation, and enjoy a glass of wine as the temperature drops and the sound of the stream provides the soundtrack. It is a formula that has won over the local public, so much so that in 2026 the event reached its fifth edition.
Behind the event is the Giovento association, a youth group from San Mauro la Bruca that has been working for years to enliven the village and its hamlets. Their stated goal is to promote the Cilento territory through experiences that combine social life and the environment, involving residents and tourists in the same convivial moment. In a municipality of a few hundred inhabitants, an event like this represents a true cultural stronghold and a meeting point for young people returning to the village in the summer.
The format is intentionally lighthearted and spans two or three evenings depending on the year. Each night features:
It is not a structured music festival, but a community celebration where the program changes every year and is announced by the organizers in the weeks prior, primarily through the association's social media channels.
San Mauro la Bruca is a small village nestled at an altitude of about 450 meters, in a hilly area of southern Cilento, not far from the coast of Palinuro and Marina di Camerota. The hamlet of San Nazario owes its name to the cult of the martyr saint, introduced to the area according to tradition by Benedictine monks; the Badia area itself preserves in its toponym the memory of an ancient monastic settlement.
It is a setting that explains the choice of location well: here, the landscape is not one of crowded beaches, but of terraces, olive groves, and streams flowing toward the sea. Participating in the aperitif also means crossing this less-traveled part of Campania, where the cuisine is that of the Mediterranean diet—white figs, extra virgin olive oil, cacioricotta, locally produced cured meats—and the pace of life is still that of a small village.
The event is suitable for those spending their holidays in lower Cilento who are looking for an evening alternative to the seaside resorts, for those who love outdoor events in a natural environment, and for those who want to experience the social life of inland villages. The informal formula and free access to the area make it accessible to everyone; drinks and food are paid for on-site.
In 2026, the Aperitivo Cilentano inda a Fiumara reached the milestone of its fifth edition, confirming the choice of the Badia area in San Nazario di San Mauro la Bruca as the setting for the celebration. The event focused on two evenings, Friday, July 24, and Saturday, July 25, starting at 8:00 PM.
The Giovento association built the program around the idea of an aperitif immersed in the stream landscape, alternating dance music and listening sessions: the first evening with DJ sets and karaoke, the second with live music and saxophone. An edition designed for a diverse audience, from families to groups of young people, and to invite residents and visitors to experience a moment of outdoor sociality together in the heart of Cilento, in the province of Salerno.
The program is as released by the organizers: both evenings took place outdoors, in the stream bed, with entertainment designed for an audience of all ages.
