Anniversary of the Defense of Rome (September 8th)

The commemoration opened around 9:30 AM at Porta San Paolo with the laying of a laurel wreath by the Head of State Sergio Mattarella at the stele commemorating those who fell for the defense of Rome. The procession then moved to the Parco della Resistenza dell'8 Settembre, where a second wreath was laid at the monument dedicated to the 87,000 Italian soldiers who fell during the War of Liberation.

Alongside the President of the Republic were the Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto, the President of the Chamber Lorenzo Fontana, the Chief of the Defense Staff Luciano Portolano, the Prefect of Rome Lamberto Giannini, the Deputy Mayor of Rome Capital Silvia Scozzese, and the Councilor for Culture of the Lazio Region Simona Baldassarre, in addition to the banners of veterans' and military associations. From 7:30 PM, the Parco della Resistenza hosted the evening event «The Courage to Remember» until midnight.
