About Our Lady of Altino
The miracle of water, 1496
The Anniversary of the Apparition of Our Lady of Altino is rooted in an event on July 23, 1496, on Monte Altino, in the territory of Albino (province of Bergamo). According to tradition, the Madonna appeared to help the woodcutter Quinto Foglia and his two sons, aged 11 and 13, who were suffering from thirst: making water spring from the rock. That spring, local devotion narrates, still flows uninterruptedly today within the Sanctuary of Altino.
The pilgrimage of the statuette
The heart of the commemoration is the journey of the pilgrim statuette, which travels through the various communities of the territory: from Altino to Cene, then to Vall'Alta and Abbazia, to finally return to Altino. Each stage is marked by celebrations and moments of prayer involving the entire Pastoral Unit of Albino.
A week of devotion
The calendar includes daily Eucharistic celebrations, Rosary recitations, Eucharistic expositions, and confessions, with solemn moments such as the parish consecration in Cene and that of the Pastoral Unit in Abbazia, as well as blessings for the elderly, the sick, and civil authorities. It is an event of great spiritual importance for the Valle Seriana, which in 2026 reaches the milestone of the 530th anniversary.
