The historic fair of Mirano, authorized by the Venetian Senate in 1477
The Ancient Saint Matthew's Fair is the historic fair of Mirano, in the province of Venice, and one of the longest-running in the area: it was authorized by the Senate of the Republic of Venice by decree on September 6, 1477. Since then, it has been renewed every year around the feast of Saint Matthew the Apostle, on September 21, marking the end of summer for the town.
For five days, the heart of Mirano transforms into a large sprawling amusement park: dozens of rides and traveling shows occupy Piazza Martiri, the adjacent streets, and the stretch of via Cavin di Sala up to the intersection with via Torino. Alongside the attractions, market stalls, exhibitors, and food stands complete the festive atmosphere of the fair.
The event is organized by the Municipality of Mirano, through the Department of Commercial Activities. Over the years, the administration has also promoted initiatives such as "Come to the Fair by Bike," with supervised parking for bicycles, to encourage more sustainable mobility during days of high attendance. The Saint Matthew's Fair remains a deeply identity-forming event for Mirano and for the entire Riviera del Brenta.
For 2026, the Ancient Saint Matthew's Fair will once again liven up Mirano around the feast of Saint Matthew the Apostle, on September 21. The fair is traditionally set for the third Saturday of September; the exact dates will be confirmed by the Municipality of Mirano closer to the event.
The usual five days of festivities are expected, with dozens of rides and traveling shows, stalls, exhibitors, and food stands in Piazza Martiri, the streets of the historic center, and the stretch of via Cavin di Sala up to via Torino, in addition to the "Come to the Fair by Bike" initiative.
