A Festival Over Three Centuries Old
The Ancient Festival of the Carmine of Sorio is one of the oldest popular events in the Veneto: the 2026 edition is the 328th. It is held in Sorio, a hamlet of Gambellara in the province of Vicenza, in a territory famous for the vineyards of the DOC Gambellara. The festival has its roots in the religious celebrations in honor of the Madonna del Carmelo, which still officially open the festival today with Holy Mass and a procession.
Fried Fish, the Queen of the Table
The heart of the event is the large gastronomic stand, which opens every evening with table service. The undisputed specialty is the mixed fried fish, alongside traditional Venetian dishes: duck bigoli, mixed grills, stews, polenta, cod, and typical desserts. Takeaway service is also available.
Music, Shows, and Fireworks
Each evening features music and entertainment, from offerings for the younger generation to dance evenings, a dance show, and the grand finale with fireworks. Organized by the Sorio Committee with the support of dozens of local organizations, the festival is an identity-defining event that, edition after edition, continues to bring together the entire community of Gambellara and neighboring towns at the foot of the Vicenza hills.
Festival of the Carmine of Sorio — edition 2026
The 2026 edition, the 328th, of the Ancient Festival of the Carmine of Sorio will be held from July 16 to 20 in the hamlet of Gambellara. The festival opens on Thursday the 16th with Holy Mass and the procession of the Madonna del Carmelo, followed by four evenings of gastronomic stand, music, and shows, culminating in the grand finale on Monday the 20th with fireworks.

How to Get Here
Sorio is a hamlet of Gambellara, in the province of Vicenza, along the border with the province of Verona. By car, it can be reached from the A4 Milan-Venice motorway (exit Montebello Vicentino or San Bonifacio). The nearest train station is San Bonifacio.
Gastronomic Stand
The stand opens every evening from 7:00 PM with table service; takeaway is also available. The specialty is mixed fried fish, alongside traditional Venetian dishes.
