Acrobatic and giant kites on Fano's Lido, between sky and the Adriatic Sea
Un Mare di Aquiloni is the event that, in the early days of May, transforms the Lido di Fano into a large open-air stage suspended between sky and sea. For two days, the beach in the Municipality of Fano, in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, comes alive with kites of all shapes and sizes: from the fast acrobatics of steerable kites to the imposing silhouettes of giant kites that float slowly above the Adriatic. It has quickly become the symbolic event that inaugurates the city's tourist and bathing season.
From 10:00 AM on both days, the Lido fills with flights, figures, and exhibitions curated by expert kite flyers. Alongside the aerial show, there are workshops dedicated to kite building and flying, perfect for younger children, and a long row of local craft markets and stalls selling typical regional products along the beach. The organization also sets up a large area with food stalls and refreshment points, allowing visitors to spend the entire day at the Lido, from morning to evening, enjoying the sea, kites, and good food.
The most recent edition introduced its most anticipated attraction: illuminated giant kites that, as darkness falls, paint the night sky above the Adriatic. A captivating spectacle that extends the festival into the evening, accompanied by live music and DJ sets on the main stage. It is this mix of flight, light, and music that makes Un Mare di Aquiloni an event suitable for all ages.
Ancient Fanum Fortunae from Roman times, Fano is one of the most vibrant cities on the Marche coast, known for its historic carnival and a calendar of events that accompanies residents and tourists throughout the year. Un Mare di Aquiloni marks the start of the Fano summer: a free, popular, and family-friendly event that celebrates the beach, conviviality, and the imagination of those who look at the sky.
The second edition of Un Mare di Aquiloni animated Lido di Fano on May 1st and 2nd, 2026, confirming the event as the opening of the bathing season. From 10:00 AM on both days, the sky above the Adriatic was filled with acrobatic and giant kites, featuring exhibitions, workshops for children, craft markets, and stalls with typical Marche products along the beach.
The main novelty of the 2026 edition was the illuminated giant kites, which starred in spectacular night flights over the sea. The event, free and family-friendly, was accompanied by live music and DJ sets on the main stage, extending the festivities from morning until evening.
Lido di Fano is easily reachable by car via the A14 motorway (Fano exit) or by train to Fano station, from which the seafront is a short distance away. By car, it is advisable to use the parking lots in the sea area, given the crowds during the event days.
Admission to the event is free. Activities take place outdoors, on the beach and along the seafront of Lido di Fano.
