Edition 2025 — Zusslrennen

In 2025, the Zusslrennen once again brought Prato allo Stelvio to life on Fat Thursday, February 27. Faithful to a tradition that repeats itself identically year after year, the white-clad Zussl paraded through the town center with their heavy cowbells, accompanied by the classic figures of the procession, to banish winter according to the ancient propitiatory rite of the Vinschgau Valley.

Zusslrennen 2025

On February 27, 2025, Fat Thursday, Prato allo Stelvio/Prad am Stilfserjoch renewed the Zusslrennen, the carnival custom that symbolizes the Upper Vinschgau. In the center of the village, the Zussl—men and boys dressed entirely in white and adorned with colorful ribbons and flowers—paraded while ringing the cowbells tied to their waists. The procession featured the traditional figures: the six white horses with the plow, the carter with his whip, the sower, and the farmers' group. The free event confirmed the community's strong bond with this unique ritual in South Tyrol.
