Zampognarea 2025 — the 21st edition
The twenty-first edition of Zampognarea enlivened Catania from December 6, 2025, to January 6, 2026. The inauguration was held on December 6 at the Diocesan Museum (Via Etnea 8) with an exhibition on zampogne and bagpipes from around the world, open until Epiphany, accompanied by contributions from Father Francesco La Vecchia, ethnomusicologist Giuseppe Sanfratello, and Prof. Vittorio Ugo Vicari.
Highlights
- Canticum Pastorum — sounds, songs, and stories of the Christmas Novena with the IsolaPunta ensemble and actress Iridiana Petrone (churches of San Pio X and Sant'Anna)
- Canne sonore folk instrument-making workshops for children and teenagers and ACAF photographic exhibition at the Tinni Tinni Arts Club
- Presentation of the book Nella mente della Zampogna by Sergio Di Giorgio and the multimedia concert Resonet!
- Christmas concerts by the Vincenzo Scontrino Amateur Orchestra and the Frottole Vocal Ensemble (Puer Natus Est)
- Evening concerts by Stefano Saletti (Mediterranima) and the Areasud Electric Roots
Most events were free of charge, with some evening concerts requiring a nominal ticket of 5 euros, confirming the popular and inclusive vocation of the Catania festival.
