XIPHIAS – Historical Swordfish Hunt

XIPHIAS 2025: the second edition

The 2nd edition of XIPHIAS was held on July 26 and 27, 2025, on the Lago Grande of Ganzirri. Saturday the 26th, at 7:30 PM, the square of the Church of San Nicola hosted the conference "The swordfish hunt: the story of a millennial fishing practice," followed by the inauguration of the photo exhibition and the performance of the giants Mata and Grifone.

Sunday the 27th, from the afternoon, featured the gathering on the lake shores, the rowing race with four crews, the award ceremony for the "Swordfish Palio," and at 6:45 PM, the scenic re-enactment of the hunt with the arrival of the boats, the sighting, the pursuit, and the capture of the fish, followed by Mass on the lake. An event that confirmed the strong bond of the Ganzirri community with its maritime tradition.
