Edition 2025 — Volto Santo Festival

On August 6, 2025, Venetico Superiore renewed the Volto Santo Festival with the traditional procession of the sacred icon. The venerated painting, a faithful 1625 copy, was carried from the Mother Church of San Nicolò through the streets of the village to Piazza Immacolata, where the faithful received a blessing. It was a day of intense devotion and popular participation, marked by the religious rites and civil festivities that animate the Messina hilltop village every year for this occasion.

Volto Santo Festival 2025

The 2025 edition of the Volto Santo Festival took place in Venetico Superiore on August 6th, on the day of the Transfiguration of the Lord. As every year, the central moment was the procession of the Volto Santo painting, carried from the Mother Church of San Nicolò, where it is kept, to Piazza Immacolata, followed by the solemn blessing of those present.

The day united the Venetico community in an atmosphere of deep devotion, accompanied by the usual civil festivities—illuminations and celebrations in the village—which every summer draw residents, returning emigrants, and visitors together for one of the most deeply rooted religious traditions in the Messina area.
