Every summer, in the days around Ferragosto (mid-August), the village of Sassoferrato (province of Ancona, Marche) rewinds the tape and goes back in time. The Vintage Event enlivens the charming Rocca di Albornoz, the fortress overlooking the town, with six consecutive evenings entirely dedicated to the culture and music of the '70s, '80s, and '90s. The event's slogan says it all: "Are you feeling nostalgic for the '70s, '80s, and '90s?"
The history of the event
The Vintage Event was born in 2008 from the idea of a group of friends from Sassoferrato (Sandro, Giorgio, and Marcello), who in 2010 founded the Associazione Vintage Sassoferrato, still the organizer of the event. What started as a single evening has evolved over the years into a six-night consecutive event, which has become an eagerly awaited tradition on the Marche summer calendar.
What to expect
The Rocca di Albornoz and its park are filled with stands, stages, and themed areas. The program, which varies from year to year, revolves around some fixed elements:
- Live concerts with prominent national guests and space for emerging local artists;
- DJ sets featuring the best dance and pop music from the three decades;
- Vintage vehicle rallies, particularly the now-famous rally of Citroën 2CVs and related models, and vintage car and motorcycle rallies, as well as Harley-Davidson & Custom motorcycle rallies from previous editions;
- Vintage markets dedicated to fashion, accessories, and collectibles throughout the festival;
- Food and wine tours with stands and kitchens in the Rocca Park;
- '40s-'50s dances such as Boogie Woogie, Swing, and Jumpin' Jive, with performances and opportunities to hit the dance floor;
- Themed looks, with visitors dressing up according to the fashion of the celebrated decades.

By car: Sassoferrato can be reached from the SS76 (Ancona-Rome) with an exit towards the hinterland, or from the SP360 Arceviese. By train: the nearest station is Fabriano, on the Rome-Ancona line, from which you can continue by bus or car to Sassoferrato. Nearest airport: Ancona-Falconara.
