The Genesis of Villa Sonora

Villa Sonora has its roots in the 2025-2026 residency year at the French Academy in Rome. As per tradition, the fellows who arrive at Villa Medici—artists, musicians, and researchers from various disciplines—create projects that engage with the history and spaces of the Villa. From the meeting of four of them, the idea of a cycle dedicated to improvisation, electronics, and experimental music was born, designed to make the gardens and architecture of the Villa on the Pincio Hill resonate within the municipality of Rome.

The project developed throughout the residency year and found its public form in the summer, confirming Villa Medici's vocation as a living place of contemporary creation in the heart of Rome and the Lazio region.
