Edition 2025 — Via Francesca from Porretta to Sambuca

In 2025, the Via Francesca della Sambuca was once again the protagonist of guided hikes organized in the Sambuca Pistoiese area. Walks to discover the ancient branch of the Via Francigena that connected Bologna to Pistoia, through the chestnut forests of the Apennines, the hilltop village of Sambuca, and the historical sites of the medieval pilgrimage towards Saint James.

Throughout 2025, the ancient Via Francesca della Sambuca continued to attract walkers and history enthusiasts along its Apennine route, in the territory of the Municipality of Sambuca Pistoiese, in the province of Pistoia.

The guided excursions allowed participants to walk through chestnut forests, ancient villages, bridges, and mills, recounting the history of the Via Francigena branch that united Bologna and Pistoia. Among the stops and places of interest were Sambuca Castle, the Limentra valley, and the ancient hospices that welcomed pilgrims heading to the relic of Saint James.
