Edition 2025 — Via Crucis at the Colosseum

The 2025 edition, held on April 18 during the Jubilee Year of Hope, was presided over by Cardinal Baldassare Reina, Vicar General of Rome, representing Pope Francis. The meditations for the fourteen stations were written personally by the Pontiff, who was convalescing at the time.

On Friday, April 18, 2025, in the heart of the Holy Year of the Jubilee of Hope, the Via Crucis at the Colosseum was led by Cardinal Baldassare Reina, Vicar General for the Diocese of Rome, delegated by Pope Francis. The texts of the meditations had been prepared by Pope Francis himself and revolved around the theme of a «world in pieces», the marginalized, and an economy that kills. Approximately 20,000 faithful followed the procession of the fourteen stations by torchlight, in the customary setting of the Flavian Amphitheatre in Rome.
