Veneralia in Calvisium 2025: the third edition
The third edition of Veneralia in Calvisium was held on August 17, 2025, starting at 7:00 PM in the village of Carapelle Calvisio (AQ). The show, written and directed by archaeologist Daniele Mancini, brought to the stage the rite of the five priestesses of the Temple of Venus, with a procession, hymns to the goddess, and the sacred fire ritual conducted by an augur.
The performance featured the Arotron theatre company from Pianella and the Venus historical dance group from Sant'Omero, joined by young local students in the role of novices, with the participation of soldiers and magistrates. The evening concluded with the Roman banquet by reservation, served on triclinia with recipes from Apicius' De Re Coquinaria. The event, organized by musA – Connessioni per la Cultura with the patronage of the Abruzzo Region, the Municipality, and the Pro Loco of Carapelle Calvisio, confirmed the growing appeal of the re-enactment.
