Edition 2025 — Varette of Barcellona P.G.

The 2025 edition took place on Good Friday, April 18. The two communities of Barcellona and Pozzo di Gotto celebrated the simultaneous processions, departing around 5:30 PM — one from San Giovanni and the other from Santa Maria Assunta — to then cross at dusk along the covered Longano stream, in a moment of intense popular devotion marked by the chanting of the Vexilla Regis.

On Good Friday, April 18, 2025, the rite of the dual Varette Procession was renewed in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto. The two processions departed around 5:30 PM — the Barcellona one from the San Giovanni area and the Pozzo di Gotto one from Santa Maria Assunta — carrying the ancient sculptural groups of the Passion of Christ through the city streets. At dusk, the two processions crossed along the covered Longano stream, accompanied by the polyphonic chanting of the Visillanti, in one of the most heartfelt events of the Holy Week in the Province of Messina.
