Vara and Messina August – Giants' Cavalcade

Messina August 2025

The 2025 edition of the Feast of the Assumption in Messina followed the traditional calendar, coordinated by the Department of Cultural Policies and Tourism of the Municipality. On August 13th, the Giants Mata and Grifone were moved from Camaro to Piazza Unione Europea, with guided tours of the museums and the folkloric show "Folk in Fest under the Giants" at Palazzo Zanca.

On August 14th, the procession of the Sacred Candelore reached Piazza Castronovo, followed by the solemn mass presided over by Archbishop Giovanni Accolla and the parade of the Giants. On August 15th, after the rope-tying ceremony at dawn and the pontifical mass in the Cathedral, the Vara departed in the afternoon from Piazza Castronovo to conclude its route in Piazza Duomo, welcomed by the Eucharistic celebration and fireworks over the Strait.
