Edition 2025 — Vosching of Timau

The archaic carnival of Timau renewed its tradition in 2025: the parade of masks, the Maschkars min Kloukn with bells and soot-blackened faces, and the beautiful, silent Jutalan masks dancing to the sound of the accordion in the German-speaking island of the upper Val But.

The 2025 edition of the Uroltar Vosching confirmed the strength of one of the most archaic carnival traditions in the Alps. Along the streets of Timau, the noisy Maschkars min Kloukn masks — with bells around their waists and faces blackened by soot — alternated with the silent dances of the Jutalan, the beautiful masked figures with veiled faces, accompanied by the accordion.

A rite that preserves the identity of the Tischlbongara community and is part of the Dolomite Archaic Masked Traditions, nominated for intangible UNESCO heritage.
