Edition 2025 — Villalago Underwater Nativity

On December 26, 2025, just after sunset, the Underwater Nativity returned to enchant Lake San Domenico in Villalago. Divers from the Tortuga Club Teramo transported the six ceramic Nativity statues on rafts, immersing them on the lakebed. Around the water, lit torches and candles, Christmas carols, and bagpipes, followed by fireworks reflecting on the water, provided a moment of pure emotion for the hundreds of spectators present.

The 2025 edition of the Underwater Nativity took place as tradition dictates on December 26th, just after sunset, on the shores of Lake San Domenico in Villalago, in the province of L'Aquila.

The ceremony saw the divers of the Tortuga Club Teramo form a scenic procession on the lake's surface, transporting the statues of the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, Baby Jesus, and the three Wise Men—crafted in ceramic by the Castelli Art Institute—on rafts. The banks, illuminated by torches and candles, welcomed visitors with Christmas carols and the sound of bagpipes, while the final pyrotechnic show celebrated the event's success. In 2025, the event once again confirmed its appeal, remaining one of the most characteristic and beloved Christmas appointments in inland Abruzzo.
