The great weekend of international Elite and Under 23 cycling in Castelfidardo
The Due Giorni Marchigiana is one of the most anticipated events on the international cycling calendar for the Elite and Under 23 categories. It takes place every year at the end of May in Castelfidardo, a town in the province of Ancona in the Marche region, famous for its accordions and the National Monument of the Marche. The event, organized by the Sporting Club Sant'Agostino, is a true showcase for young cycling talents: many professional champions have passed through here before making their mark in the major World Tour races.
The format is a weekend that tests every type of rider. The first day, the Gran Premio Santa Rita - Trofeo Foridra, features a selective and challenging course, enhanced by the very tough climb of Contrada Valle Oscura: a route for climbers and attackers, where the race is decided by breakaways and attacks. The second day, the Trofeo Città di Castelfidardo - Trofeo Cisel, crosses the territories of Castelfidardo, Loreto, and Recanati on a course more suited to sprinters, often ending in a bunch sprint.
In addition to the individual race classifications, the two races award the Combinata Semar, which crowns the rider with the best overall score for the weekend with the prestigious orange jersey. This is the most coveted award, as it rewards consistency and the ability to best interpret such different courses.
The Due Giorni Marchigiana is not just high-level sport: it's a celebration that involves the entire community of Castelfidardo. Dozens of volunteers, the hamlets of Sant'Agostino and Cerretano, roads closed to traffic and decorated, and crowds lining the routes and climbs make this event a true moment of gathering. Entry is free for spectators, who can follow the races from the roadside in a grand classic atmosphere.
A very high-level edition with 176 cyclists and 30 teams at the start, including 21 Italian and 9 international teams. The two races provided spectacular action along the roads of Castelfidardo and neighboring municipalities, confirming the Due Giorni Marchigiana as one of the most important classics in the Elite/Under 23 amateur scene.
On Saturday, May 23, the Gran Premio Santa Rita - Trofeo Foridra (170.3 km) was held, won by Samuele Zoccarato (MBH Bank Colpack Ballan CSB) after a solo breakaway of about 140 kilometers, holding on even on the very tough climb of Contrada Valle Oscura. On Sunday, May 24, the Trofeo Città di Castelfidardo - Trofeo Cisel (182.4 km) was won by Marco Manenti (VF Group - Bardiani CSF - Faizanè), ahead of Davide Boscaro and Riccardo Fabbro.
The Combinata Semar awarded the orange jersey to the best rider over the two days of racing.
Castelfidardo is located in the province of Ancona, a few kilometers from the Adriatic coast. By car: take the Loreto exit on the A14 motorway, then follow signs for Castelfidardo. By train: Loreto-Porto Recanati station on the Adriatic line, then take a bus or taxi.
The event traditionally takes place on the last weekend of May, over two consecutive days (Saturday and Sunday). The races start at 1:00 PM.
