Trifase 50 — 50 Years Since the End of Three-Phase Electric Traction

In 2025, no standalone edition of Trifase 50 was held, as the event was conceived by the Fondazione FS Italiane specifically for the fiftieth anniversary celebrated in Acqui Terme in 2026. The historical anniversary that inspires the event falls on May 25: on that date in 1976, on the line to Alessandria, the last three-phase current of the Ferrovie dello Stato network was cut, closing a chapter that had lasted over seventy years. Over the years, the memory of three-phase traction, a unique system created for demanding mountain lines, has been kept alive by the Museo Ferroviario Piemontese and by enthusiast associations active in Acqui Terme and the province of Alessandria, in Piedmont. The idea for the major 2026 celebrations was born from this conservation work.
