Edition 2025 — Val Senales Transhumance

In 2025, the Val Senales transhumance took place over two days: Sunday, September 7, saw the return of the flocks to Maso Corto/Kurzras, and Saturday, September 13, marked the more impressive return to Lago di Vernago/Vernagt. As per tradition, the arrival of the sheep from the Ötztal pastures was welcomed with the Hirtenfest, featuring folk music, alpine horns, and South Tyrolean gastronomic specialties.

The 2025 edition of the transhumance in Val Senales (municipality of Senales/Schnals, South Tyrol) followed the traditional dates of the pastoral ritual. Sunday, September 7, 2025, about 1,500 sheep descended from the Rofenberg mountain pasture to Maso Corto/Kurzras, while Saturday, September 13, 2025, over 2,200 sheep and 300 goats reached Lago di Vernago/Vernagt in the most spectacular return. On both days, the Hirtenfest enlivened the arrival points with music, alpine horns, Krapfen, and cheese tastings, along with the Schofschoad, the sorting of the flocks. The transhumance between Val Senales and the Ötztal has been a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2019.
