Traditional Game of the Rouotta of Lillianes

The 2025 edition of the Rouotta of Lillianes took place on December 26th, St. Stephen's Day, faithful to the tradition of playing the game regardless of weather conditions. Along the characteristic obstacle course, players competed by throwing wooden spheres amidst ritual phrases in the Aosta Valley patois, under the watchful eye of the referee responsible for marking penalties. The day concluded with the traditional dinner of cheese risotto and the awards ceremony, featuring wood and soapstone sculptures for the winners. A ritual that continues to unite all generations of the village, custodian of an intangible heritage recognized by UNESCO.
