Tirata del Carro of Fontanarosa – Feast of Maria SS. della Misericordia

The 2025 Fontanarosa Ferragosto

On August 14, 2025, the Municipality of Fontanarosa, in the province of Avellino, renewed its most defining tradition: the Tirata del Carro, with the straw giant nearly 28 meters tall pulled by oxen and hundreds of participants through the streets of the Irpinian village, in honor of Maria Santissima della Misericordia. Accompanying the ritual were the songs and applause of thousands of spectators who arrived from all over Irpinia.

The eve, Wednesday, August 13th, featured a concert by Marina Rei at the I Maggio parking lot. The day began in Piazza Cristo Re, where at 3:00 PM the jazz of Conturband accompanied the wait for the Tirata, which started at 6:00 PM. Late in the evening, the square filled up for the concert by Enzo Gragnaniello, on stage at 11:00 PM with the «Veleno, mare e ammore tour», followed after midnight on August 15th by a DJ set by Irene Ferrara.

The musical aftermath

The program continued on August 16th with Almamegretta and their «Sanacore tour», closing on August 21st with the Bottari di Macerata Campania, guardians of another popular Campanian tradition. An edition that confirmed Fontanarosa as one of the most popular destinations for the Irpinian Ferragosto.
