Testamento di Carnevale

The 2025 edition of the Testamento di Carnevale took place on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 9:00 PM in Piazza Zannelli, in Pettorano sul Gizio (AQ), marking the return of the tradition after several years of interruption.

In the role of King Carnival, chef Michele Ciccolella of the restaurant Il Torchio read the rhyming will before the community gathered in the square: ancient verses, riddles, advice, playful predictions, and village gossip alternated with songs and shared wine in a satirical parody of legal documents. The evening concluded with the arrival of the 'vecchiaccia Quaresima', symbol of the transition to the time of penance, in a celebration that drew both children and adults of the Peligna Valley to the square.
