Teatro in Corte is the summer theatre festival hosted in the courtyard of Palazzo Recupero Cutore, at Via Etnea 33, in Aci Bonaccorsi. This small town in the Metropolitan City of Catania is nestled on the southeastern slopes of Mount Etna. Conceived and promoted by the Associazione Città Teatro, the event transforms the historic palazzo's courtyard into an open-air stage every summer, where the audience enjoys performances in the intimate and evocative setting of a building that holds great significance for the local community.

A festival born for the local area

Active since at least 2020, the festival has established itself over the years as one of the most anticipated cultural events of the summer in Aci Bonaccorsi and the surrounding Etna region. The program alternates between the great Sicilian comedic and dramatic traditions and European theatre classics, providing a platform for both established actors and local companies. Its simple, high-quality formula has made Teatro in Corte a reference point for open-air theatre enthusiasts in the province of Catania.

The performances

The program typically runs between August and early autumn, with performances starting in the late evening, around 9:00 PM. Over the years, the courtyard of Palazzo Cutore has hosted titles from the Martoglio tradition, tributes to Sicilian folk music, and international repertoire comedies, all performed by well-known names from the Etna scene. Alongside Teatro in Corte, the Associazione Città Teatro also offers festivals dedicated to younger audiences, such as Fiabe in Corte, as well as film screenings in the same space.

Aci Bonaccorsi and Mount Etna

Situated at an altitude of approximately 400 metres, Aci Bonaccorsi is one of the "Acese" towns in the province of Catania, Sicily, offering a picturesque view between the Ionian Sea and the volcano. The festival is also an opportunity to discover the town's historic centre and its architectural heritage, of which Palazzo Recupero Cutore is one of the most representative examples.
