Stava Disaster Anniversary

40th Anniversary — July 18-20, 2025

The fortieth anniversary of the disaster was one of the most solemn events in the history of Stava's remembrance. On Saturday, July 19, 2025, the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, paid tribute to the victims by laying a floral wreath at the monument in the victims' cemetery, next to the Church of San Leonardo in Tesero, and by participating in the civil ceremony at the Municipal Theatre, during which economist Stefano Zamagni offered a reflection on civil and corporate responsibility.

The program opened on Friday, July 18, with the assembly of the 19 July Val di Stava Association and the traditional evening Via Crucis along the valley. On Sunday, July 20, the commemoration concluded with a concert in the Archpriest Church of Tesero, featuring John Rutter's Requiem and other choral and instrumental pieces, including a composition created for the occasion. The ceremonies attended by the Head of State were broadcast via live streaming.
