The 2025 summer season at the San Paolo Hippodrome in Montegiorgio (FM) confirmed the long tradition of night trotting races in the Val Tenna countryside, with a packed schedule of meetings between June and August. However, the edition was marked by news that stirred the world of horse racing: the 44th Italian Drivers Championship, historically hosted at San Paolo, was canceled for 2025. The decision was formalized by MASAF decree on July 9, 2025, following communication from Società Marchigiana Allevamento (S.M.A.) srl, the facility's operator, which reported it was unable to organize the competition. Not a definitive withdrawal, but a one-year suspension: it was already announced at the time that the Championship would return to Montegiorgio in 2026, with a new format involving qualifiers in various Italian hippodromes and semifinals and finals back in the Marche region.
