Edition 2025 — SS. Crocifisso Festival

In 2025, Mezzojuso once again renewed its most cherished festival: the SS. Crocifisso Festival, or May Fair. On the third Sunday of May, the Arbëreshë community gathered around the Church of the SS. Crocifisso for the Greek-Byzantine liturgy, followed by the traditional rites of 'a cunnutta, the adorned mule parade, and the evening procession of the golden Vara with the 15th-century silver crucifix, before the final octave.

The 2025 edition of the SS. Crocifisso Festival in Mezzojuso (Metropolitan City of Palermo) confirmed the vitality of a tradition held uninterrupted since 1844. The festivities kicked off on the second Sunday of May with the display of the Arbëreshë Palio on the bell tower.

The third Sunday, the central moment of the festival, saw the celebration of the Greek-Byzantine liturgy in the Church of the SS. Crocifisso, accompanied by the 'a cunnutta parade and the mule procession laden with grain. In the evening, the solemn Vara procession took place through the streets of the center, followed by the octave with daily homilies and, the following Monday, the closing ceremony of the Vara.
