Edition 2025 — Sponz Viern

From January 3rd to 6th, 2025, Calitri hosted the first winter edition of Sponz Fest, dubbed Sponz Viern. Four days of music, theater, children's workshops, screenings, and readings, featuring afternoon concerts in the tuff caves of the historic center and grand evening events under the heated tent of the Area Circo in the Madonnelle district. The festival concluded on Epiphany, following Vinicio Capossela's ritual concert titled The Twelfth Night.

The first winter edition

Coinciding with the twelfth edition of Sponz Fest, the 2025 edition of Sponz Viern brought four days to Calitri, in Alta Irpinia, built around the time of the Twelve Nights. The historic center was transformed into a trail of concert-caves, while the Casa della Musica, housed in the former Rossini cinema, hosted workshops, screenings, and talks.

The evenings at the Area Circo featured the Swing Night with the Sorelle Marinetti, the Patagarri, and Tonino Carotone, the All Local Star evening dedicated to traditional quadrilles and songs, and the The Twelfth Night concert by Vinicio Capossela, featuring tightrope walkers and magicians. Among the most popular moments were the contemporary reinterpretation of the talking nativity scene and the Befana bonfire that closed the event on January 6th.

Programme

Friday, January 3rd: workshops and activities for children, screening of the film 'Natale Fuori Orario' by Gianfranco Firriolo at the Casa della Musica, afternoon meet-up and concerts in the tuff caves of the historic center with Alessandro Asso Stefana, Peppe Leone, and Andrea Tartaglia; evening opening of the Area Circo with Swing Night (Sorelle Marinetti, Patagarri with guest Tonino Carotone, Rekkiabilly Swing Punk Orchestra). Saturday, January 4th: Christmas markets in the historic center, children's workshops at the Casa del Cinema, opening of the talking nativity scene, afternoon concerts; evening All Local Star event with Makardìa, A Cunv'rsazion, and Tonuccio Corona & Pink Folk, featuring quadrilles, sonnets, and traditional Irpinian songs. Sunday, January 5th: storytelling, creative workshops, roving performances, and readings by Fabio Genovesi; evening The Twelfth Night, a ritual concert by Vinicio Capossela with guests, tightrope walkers, and magicians under the tent. Monday, January 6th: closing day on Epiphany, with the traditional Befana bonfire.
