The first regional festival of amateur theatre, travelling through historic stages
Sipari delle Marche is the first edition of a regional festival entirely dedicated to amateur theatre, conceived and organized by GAT Marche (Marche Amateur Theatre Group), the association that brings together the amateur theatre companies active throughout the region. Inaugurated in Macerata, the provincial capital in the heart of the Marche, the festival is designed as a true travelling journey through historic stages and cities, capable of uniting towns and theatres from all over the territory in a single major review.
The event unfolds over several months, from autumn to spring, touching fourteen municipalities in the Marche region that host the festival's stops: Macerata, Sant'Angelo in Pontano, Matelica, San Severino Marche, Campofilone, Altidona, Montecosaro, Corridonia, Servigliano, Porto San Giorgio, Loreto, Appignano, Monte San Vito, and Fermo. Each stop brings a local amateur company to the stage, with comedies, plays in the Marche dialect, and performances that tell the popular identity of the Marche.
The festival was born with a precise mission: to promote theatre made by those who love it, by those who take the stage out of passion and not as a profession. It is no coincidence that the inauguration in Macerata, at the Auditorium Dante Cecchi of the Mozzi Borgetti Library, opened with the conference "Amateur theatre between dialect, Italian, passion, and community", dedicated to the role of dialect as a gateway to culture and collective memory. Amateur theatre, as the organization reminds us, generates knowledge, builds trust, and helps communities grow.
Macerata is the inaugural city of the festival. After the opening conference, the historic Teatro Lauro Rossi hosts the first performance of the review, entrusted to a local amateur theatre company. This 18th-century gem of Macerata, one of the most beloved Italian-style theatres in the Marche, thus becomes the gateway to a journey that concludes months later at the Teatro dell'Aquila in Fermo.
The initiative enjoys the patronage of the Marche Region, the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Fermo, and the fourteen Municipalities hosting the stops. Institutional support that testifies to the cultural and social value of a review capable of bringing community theatre, local companies, and the public of the towns and cities of the Marche back to the centre.
The inaugural review of Sipari delle Marche opened on October 25, 2025, in Macerata, at the Auditorium Dante Cecchi, with the conference "Amateur theatre between dialect, Italian, passion, and community", followed the next day by the first performance at the Teatro Lauro Rossi, entrusted to the Compagnia APS Palcoscenico.
The festival then touched fourteen municipalities in the Marche, showcasing amateur theatre companies from the region with comedies and plays in dialect. The journey concluded on May 3, 2026, at the Teatro dell'Aquila in Fermo, with the awarding of recognitions to the host municipalities and the final performance by the Filodrammatica Dialettale Firmum.
The president of GAT Marche, Stefano Cardinali, emphasized how amateur theatre, made by people who love it, generates knowledge, builds trust, and helps communities grow.
