Edition 2025 — Siege of 320 BC
The inaugural edition of the Siege of 320 BC transformed the Augustan Amphitheatre of Lucera into the beating heart of ancient Rome. Organized by the SPQL Gruppo Storico Lucerino, the re-enactment staged in two acts the famous battle of 320 BC between the Romans and the Samnites, with the siege led by the consul Lucius Papirius Cursor against the Samnite commander Gaius Pontius.
The program included the solemn Lustratio Legionis (purification of the troops), the Damnatio ad Bestias, the Ludi Gladiatori with duels in the arena, historical pageants, ancient sacred rites, dances, archaeo-cuisine, and encampments with educational activities. The event, with free admission, was part of the "Lucera 2025 - Crossroads of Peoples and Cultures" program, the title under which the city was named Capital of Culture of Puglia.
