Edition 2025 — SS. Crocifisso of Torchiarolo

In October 2025, Torchiarolo celebrated its co-patron, the Santissimo Crocifisso, with the solemn triduum preached from 8 to 10 October and the two main days of Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 October. The procession of the Christ of the Shipwrecked, the fair, and celebrations presided over by visiting priests and prelates renewed one of the most heartfelt religious traditions of lower Salento.

The 2025 edition of the Santissimo Crocifisso Festival of Torchiarolo, in the province of Brindisi, opened with the solemn preached triduum from 8 to 10 October. Every day, the community gathered for the morning Holy Mass, the Rosary and the prayer of the five wounds in the afternoon, and the evening Eucharistic celebration, with preaching entrusted to Father Gabriele Morello, Father Cosimo Marullo, and Father Alberto Taurino.

The culminating days were Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 October: the vigil celebration, followed by the solemn procession of the Crucifix through the town streets, and Sunday dedicated to morning masses, the inauguration of the fair in the presence of authorities, and the evening celebration. As per tradition, the festival combined deep popular devotion with the warmth of the community, amidst faith, memories of the sea, and Salento identity.

Programme

Preparatory Triduum (8-10 October 2025)

  • 8:00 AM — Morning Holy Mass
  • 6:00 PM — Recitation of the Rosary and prayer of the five wounds
  • 7:00 PM — Evening Holy Mass with preaching

Triduum preachers: 8 October Father Gabriele Morello (Santa Maria della Pace parish, Lecce); 9 October Father Cosimo Marullo (San Nicola parish, Lecce); 10 October Father Alberto Taurino (Cavallino).

Saturday 11 October 2025

  • 6:30 PM — Solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Father Francesco Pesimena, parish priest of Arnesano
  • Following — Solemn procession of the Santissimo Crocifisso through the town streets

Sunday 12 October 2025

  • Morning — Eucharistic celebrations and inauguration of the fair with civil, military, and religious authorities
  • Evening — Eucharistic celebration presided over by H.E. Mons. Michele Seccia, Archbishop Emeritus of Lecce

In the following days, the missionary festival was also held (18 October), completing the calendar of festivities.
