Sant'Eligio Cavalcade and Palio

The 2025 edition of the Sant'Eligio Cavalcade and Palio confirmed Sciara's strong bond with its equestrian traditions. On the last Sunday of September, the historic center of the town in the province of Palermo was filled with horses, mules, and donkeys decorated for the festival, bearing the image of "Santo Loi" on their foreheads.

The day's highlight was the horseback procession of the ancient bas-relief depicting the miracle of Sant'Eligio, carried in a parade through the town streets and followed by the blessing imparted by the parish priest to the animals and riders. In the afternoon, the equestrian gymkhana, the horse show, and the Grand Gala took place, leading up to the final Sant'Eligio Palio, with skill and speed challenges between riders and jockeys. The festival was organized by the Associazione Equestre Sciarese with the patronage of the Municipality of Sciara.
