San Placido 2025: faith and tradition in the Nebrodi mountains

The 2025 edition of the San Placido 'u granni' Festival confirmed in Castel di Lucio, in the Province of Messina, the strength of the bond between the community and its patron saint. Among the most evocative rites preceding the procession, the 'calata a cira' on the eve and the 'acchianata di San Plà' during the solemn masses were renewed, with the statue rising to symbolize the martyr's ascent to heaven.

The solemn procession saw the participation of confraternities, clergy, and authorities, who accompanied the statue to the church of Santa Lucia and back to the Mother Church. The bearers performed the characteristic 'ballatedda' to the sound of the band, while at the small church, the 'vippita' took place—a stop with the offering of biscuits, wine, and drinks according to the local custom of Castel di Lucio.
