The patron saint's feast of Senigallia with flowers, flower carpets, and tradition
At the beginning of May, the historic center of Senigallia, an elegant seaside town in the Province of Ancona on the Adriatic coast, transforms into an open-air garden. San Paolino in Fiore is the event dedicated to greenery and flowers that accompanies the celebrations for the city's patron saint, San Paolino da Nola, celebrated on May 4th by the city and the entire Diocese of Senigallia.
The heart of the event is the charming Piazza Garibaldi, which for three days is filled with exhibitors and nursery growers. Among the stalls, you'll find floral arrangements of all kinds, fragrant plants, garden and balcony flowers, vegetable garden items, and gardening accessories. A stroll through the colors and scents of spring, ideal for enthusiasts and the curious.
The most anticipated attraction is the grand flower carpet created in the heart of the square by the group of Master Flower Carpet Makers from Castelraimondo. The artwork depicts San Paolino, bishop and patron saint of the city, with the saint's image set within a floral rose window. The picture is composed of fresh flowers, dried and ground flower powders, various natural seeds, coffee grounds, essences, and leaves: an authentic vegetal mosaic that requires hours of patient craftsmanship.
On May 4th, Senigallia pays homage to San Paolino da Nola with religious solemnity. The day is marked by several Eucharistic celebrations, including the solemn afternoon mass presided over by the Bishop on the steps of the Cathedral, followed by the traditional procession that winds through the historic center to Piazza Roma, where the city and the Diocese are entrusted to the patron saint. The procession is accompanied by the Cittร di Senigallia band, with the participation of civil authorities.
Religious moments are complemented by cultural and reflective events: meetings with guests, concerts of words and music, and initiatives dedicated to the community take place at the Teatro Portone and other venues in the center. The feast of San Paolino is thus an occasion that unites devotional tradition, civic identity, and beauty, in one of the most beloved locations on the Marche coast.
The 2026 edition took place from May 3rd to 5th in Piazza Garibaldi, Senigallia, adorned with floral arrangements, fragrant plants, and garden items. On May 4th, for the patron saint's solemnity, the Masters of Castelraimondo created a flower carpet depicting San Paolino within a floral rose window, composed of fresh flowers, dried flower powders, seeds, coffee grounds, and natural essences.
The religious solemnity on Monday, May 4th, included Eucharistic celebrations with a solemn mass and a procession through the historic center. Among the cultural events, there was a meeting at the Teatro Portone with journalist Beppe Severgnini on the theme 'Friendship Builds the City'.
The events take place in the historic center of Senigallia (AN): the 'San Paolino in Fiore' market in Piazza Garibaldi, religious celebrations at the Cathedral and Piazza Roma.
By car: A14 motorway, Senigallia exit. By train: Senigallia station on the Bologna-Ancona-Pescara Adriatic line, a few minutes' walk from the center. The nearest airport is Ancona-Falconara.
