Saint Peter Festival

The 2025 edition of the Saint Peter Festival in Modica marked a historic moment for the city: the return of the Santoni parade after more than seventy years of absence. On June 21, thirteen monumental papier-mâché figures depicting Jesus Christ and the twelve Apostles, standing over three meters tall, paraded from Palazzo dei Mercedari to line up before the staircase of the Church of Saint Peter, welcomed by a large and emotional crowd.

The revival of this tradition, which had been interrupted in the 1950s, was made possible thanks to the work of the Kalikantun association and the restoration carried out by local artisans, in collaboration with the Municipality of Modica and the parish of Saint Peter the Apostle. Palazzo dei Mercedari now permanently houses the Santoni. The festival concluded with the solemnity of June 29, the procession of the patron's statue, and the traditional fireworks.
