Saint Margaret Patronal Feast and Saracen Festival

On July 13, 2025, Villamagna, in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo, celebrated the patronal feast of Saint Margaret with the historic Saracen Festival. The procession with the saint's statue was held on the evening of July 12th, while Sunday featured the solemn mass and the re-enactment of the expulsion of the Saracens. Dozens of costumed performers, including knights and lancers, re-enacted the 1556 siege and the miracle of the flaming beam through the village streets, concluding with the conversion of the attackers and the offering of sweets, wine, and canestrelle. The event, which was free and well-attended, confirms the vitality of one of the town's most defining traditions.
