Saint Luigi Orione Celebrations

2025 Edition

The celebration on May 16, 2025, in Avezzano combined the memory of the saint with the Volunteer Festival, established in the Diocese of Marsi to recognize Don Orione as the patron saint of volunteers. At 5:30 PM, the procession departed from the courtyard of the Don Orione Institute with the statue of the saint, accompanied by the faithful, volunteer associations, and the notes of the Avezzano band. At 6:00 PM, a solemn concelebration was held at the Madonna del Suffragio church, presided over by Bishop Giovanni Massaro, with the participation of the confraternities of Marsica and law enforcement. A moment of faith and gratitude in memory of those who, after the 1915 earthquake, rushed to rescue Avezzano and gather the orphans from the ruins.
