Saint Luigi Gonzaga Festival

The 2025 Saint Luigi Gonzaga Festival in Lizzanello combined, as per tradition, religious devotion and community life. On the eve of the solemnity, in the presence of the municipal administration and the Archbishop of Lecce, Monsignor Michele Seccia, the municipal park in Piazza della Libertà was named in memory of Father Alfonso Cannoletta, with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.

Immediately after, the Archbishop presided over the Eucharistic celebration, followed by the procession with the saint's statue through the town streets — from Piazza della Libertà along Via Torino, Kennedy, Vespucci, Petrarca, Gramsci, Cavour, and returning to the Maria SS. Addolorata parish church for the final blessing. The liturgical solemnity of June 21st was marked by morning and evening masses, amidst illuminations, brass band concerts, and the traditional secular festivities of the Salento village.
