Saint James Festival – Luminaria della Scala

The 2025 edition of the Saint James Festival upheld the cherished ritual of Caltagirone: the Scala di Santa Maria del Monte illuminated by thousands of oil lamps on the evenings of July 24 and 25, in honor of the patron saint, and again for Ferragosto on August 14 and 15. Managed by the Russo family according to a centuries-old craft tradition, the Luminaria featured different designs each evening, inspired by the city's coat of arms and the figure of Saint James the Pilgrim.

Alongside the light show, the city experienced religious celebrations with Solemn First Vespers in the Basilica of Saint James and the procession of the patron saint's statue through the historic center.
