Saint Irene Patronal Feast

The 2025 edition of the Saint Irene Patronal Feast took place on Monday, May 5th, a public holiday for the city of Altamura with schools and public offices closed. At 7:00 PM, the solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Bishop Giuseppe Russo was held in the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta.

Following this, at 8:00 PM, the procession crossed the historic center, carrying the wooden statue of the Saint along Piazza Duomo, Corso Federico II di Svevia, Via XX Settembre, Piazza Zanardelli, Via dei Mille, Via Vittorio Veneto, Piazza Unità d'Italia, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Corso Umberto I, and Piazza della Resistenza, before returning to the Cathedral. The recurrence confirmed the strong bond of the Altamura community with its patron saint, invoked for about three centuries.
