Edition 2025 — Saint Gerard Majella Festival

In 2025, the Saint Gerard Majella Festival in Materdomini, Caposele, followed the traditional two-part structure: the 'first festival' on Sunday, September 7th, with morning masses, the fair, and the long afternoon procession, and the Solemnity on Thursday, October 16th, preceded by the novena. From dawn, a river of pilgrims flooded the streets of the Irpinian hamlet to pay homage to the patron saint of mothers and children, amidst popular hymns, prayers, and final fireworks.

The 2025 edition

The 2025 Saint Gerard Majella Festival confirmed the appeal of the Materdomini Sanctuary in the municipality of Caposele (Avellino province, Campania). The 'first festival' was celebrated on Sunday, September 7, 2025, the first Sunday of the month as per custom, with morning Eucharistic celebrations, the fair along the village streets, and the afternoon procession with the statue of the saint accompanied by devotional banners.

The second event, the Solemnity of October 16, 2025, the anniversary of the saint's death in 1755, was preceded by the novena and the commemoration of the Transit. From the first light of day, pilgrims arriving from Irpinia and all over Southern Italy crowded the basilica for non-stop masses. In the afternoon, the grand procession crossed Materdomini amidst prayers and popular hymns, before the fireworks that closed the festivities by illuminating the valley.
