Edition 2025 — Saint Anthony Abbot in Marruci

In January 2025, the village of Marruci in Pizzoli once again celebrated Saint Anthony Abbot, the patron and protector of animals, renewing the tradition of the bonfires that blends the sacred and the secular in Abruzzo. The bonfire, the blessing of the animals, the band procession, the auction of local products, and the fireworks marked the festive days around the ancient 15th-century church.

The 2025 edition of the Saint Anthony Abbot Festival in Marruci di Pizzoli (AQ) confirmed the vitality of a tradition deeply rooted in the community of the L'Aquila hinterland. In January 2025, as is customary, the village gathered around the Church of Saint Anthony Abbot to honor the patron saint of animals.

The characteristic moments of the festival - the bonfire, the blessing of the animals, the procession of the statues of Saint Anthony and the Madonna of the Snow accompanied by the band, the auction of local products, the pupazza dance, and the fireworks - renewed the ritual that unites popular faith and conviviality, in an Abruzzo where the fires of Saint Anthony continue to burn year after year.
