Saint Anthony Abbot Festival of Vicovaro

In 2025, the community of Vicovaro once again celebrated its patron saint on the liturgical feast day of Saint Anthony Abbot, Friday, January 17. The festival followed the well-established traditional script: religious celebrations in the parish church, vespers, and the procession that winds from the church of Saint Anthony Abbot through the streets of the historic center, accompanied by the members of the Most Holy Cross Confraternity in their characteristic white robes and red capes.

The blessing of the animals, the most beloved ritual of the anniversary, was not missed, nor was the distribution of anise ciambella and Saint Anthony's pastarella at the church of San Pietro Apostolo. An event that, as usual, extended the festivities for the entire week, confirming the patronal feast as the most identity-defining moment of the year for the village in the Aniene Valley, in Lazio.
