Edition 2025 โ€” Saint Anthony Abbot and the Panarda

The 2025 edition of the Saint Anthony Abbot Festival in Villavallelonga was held from January 12th to 17th, with the main rites on the 16th and 17th. The Panarda was prepared in about ninety homes in the village as an act of charity offered to the Saint, while the Favata was distributed from house to house by the Bianchi family. Costume parades, bonfires, and the burning of the Pupazze confirmed the vitality of this Marsica tradition.

In 2025, the Saint Anthony Abbot Festival in Villavallelonga (AQ), Abruzzo, took place from January 12th to 17th according to the customary multi-centennial rite. On the night between the 16th and 17th, the Panarda was hosted in about ninety homes, with tables laden with dozens of courses to renew ancient vows. On the morning of the 17th, the Favata, a soup of fava beans and bread, was distributed area by area throughout the village. The afternoon featured costume parades with Saint Anthony, the Devil, and the Wolf, accordion groups, and, at sunset, the traditional burning of the Pupazze to seal the festival and open the Carnival.
