The Ionian coast's bluefish festival, in the heart of the Riposto marina
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Fish Festival is one of the most beloved summer events in Riposto, a charming maritime town in the province of Catania, Sicily. Born from a desire to showcase the catch of the Ionian Riviera, with a special focus on bluefish, the festival has become a staple of the local calendar. Its home is Piazza del Commercio, the historic hub of the marina, where for three consecutive nights you can breathe in the authentic atmosphere of a village that has always lived in symbiosis with its port.
Riposto owes its very name to its maritime vocation: it was the place where barrels and goods destined for shipping were "stored" (riposte). From this history of fishermen, shipwrights, and merchants comes an event that is both a gastronomic feast and a celebration of identity. Since 2008, the festival has been dedicated to the memory of Enzo Lipari and serves as a showcase for the unique character of the entire Riposto territory.
The absolute star is the bluefish from the Ionian Riviera, prepared according to local traditional recipes. At the various stalls, you can savor fragrant fried fish, typical maritime dishes, and specialties that tell the story of the simple yet flavorful cuisine of Riposto's fishermen.
The festival is about more than just food: each edition is enriched with folk performances celebrating Sicilian culture, sports demonstrations, sea-related activities, and plenty of great music to enjoy under the stars. Among the most colorful attractions is the re-enactment of the Barrel Palio, a direct nod to the village's commercial history. The event is organized by the Effatà Cultural Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Riposto.
The event is traditionally held in mid-August, at the height of the summer season, when Riposto and the seaside hamlet of Torre Archirafi come alive with residents and tourists. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced: we recommend checking the official channels of the Municipality of Riposto and the Effatà Association in the weeks leading up to Ferragosto.
The dates and detailed program for the 2026 Fish Festival in Riposto have not yet been officially announced. The event traditionally takes place in mid-August in Piazza del Commercio and, based on past editions, should once again feature three evenings dedicated to the bluefish of the Ionian Riviera, with gastronomic tastings, folk reviews celebrating Sicilian culture, sea-related initiatives, and live music.
To find out the final dates and line-up, we recommend following the official channels of the Municipality of Riposto and the Effatà Cultural Association, who manage the organization, in the weeks leading up to Ferragosto.
Riposto is located along the Ionian coast, at the foot of Mount Etna, in the province of Catania. By car, it can be reached via the A18 Messina-Catania motorway, taking the Giarre-Riposto exit. By train, the Giarre-Riposto station is served by the Messina-Catania-Syracuse line. The nearest airport is Catania-Fontanarossa, approximately 30 km away.
The event is held in Piazza del Commercio, in the heart of the Riposto marina, in an area easily accessible on foot from the town center.
Access to the festival area is generally free; tastings are paid for directly at the stalls. We recommend checking the official channels of the Municipality of Riposto for updated times and details.
