Procession of the Sleeping Madonna (Dormitio Virginis)

The 2025 edition of the Sleeping Madonna procession took place as per tradition on the evening of August 15th in Acquedolci (ME). The wax statue of the Virgin resting in sleep, an 18th-century work among the most valuable in Sicily, left the Mother Church of the Blessed Virgin of the Assumption to cross the main streets of the center, accompanied by the faithful in an evening rite of strong community participation.

The celebration, distinct from the feast of the patron saint Saint Benedict the Moor (first Sunday of August), confirmed the vitality of a tradition that has its roots in the San Fratello origins of the town and which every Ferragosto brings the community together around its "Queen".
