Edition 2025 — Madonna dei Pastori

On September 8, 2025, Castel del Monte renewed the Procession of the Madonna dei Pastori, as confirmed by the local Abruzzo press. At sunset, the statue of the Virgin, in a black dress with a gold-embroidered mantle, was carried on shoulders from the Church of San Donato (departing around 6:30 PM) to the Church of the Madonna dei Pastori (arriving around 8:30 PM), crossing the village's cobblestone alleys with doors and windows left open to receive the blessing.

The 2025 edition

The 2025 edition of the Procession of the Madonna dei Pastori took place on Monday, September 8, 2025, in Castel del Monte, in the heart of the Gran Sasso National Park. The rite, documented by the local press, followed the traditional sunset itinerary: departure from the Church of San Donato around 6:30 PM and arrival at the Church of the Madonna dei Pastori around 8:30 PM, with bearers alternating along the narrow alleys of the historic center. The procession, promoted by the historic Confraternity of Shepherds, once again confirmed the village's deep bond with the culture of transhumance and the Marian devotion of September 8th.
