Procession of the Crocioni

The 2025 edition of the Procession of the Crocioni took place in Castiglione di Garfagnana on Thursday, April 17, Maundy Thursday. From the Church of San Michele, after the Mass of the Lord's Supper and the washing of the feet of the twelve apostles, the hooded, barefoot Christ emerged, wearing a crown of thorns, chains at his feet, and the heavy cross on his shoulders. Accompanied by the Cyrenian and Roman soldiers, he crossed the medieval village, falling three times at the traditional spots, before returning to the church. In 2025 as well, the rite confirmed its deep roots in the Garfagnana community.
